Mads - Multimedia Artist
About
Hello, the name's Mads - nice to meet you! I'm a multimedia artist based in Phoenix, AZ.
Education:
I graduated from Arizona State University with my BFA in Intermedia Arts in Spring of 2020. My areas of interest were multimedia video art, animation, illustration, zine making, and museum education. I was Club President of Society for Art Video (SAV) and a member of
The State Press's Art Department. I also spent much of my time at The
Arizona State University Art Museum (ASUAM) as a Museum Ambassador.
Currently I am a ceramics instructor at the Mesa Arts Center, teaching children, teens, and adults in a variety of classes and camps. Here, I demonstrate how to make forms on the wheel, handbuild, and use equipment like slab rollers and slump/hump molds.
I am also an Education Facilitator at Scottsdale Arts as part of their
Learning and Innovation program (SALI). My duties include assisting the
Memory Lounge program, a series of workshops designed for people with moderate to severe memory problems and their caregivers, and
Visions, a yearlong program dedicated to engaging 42 high school art students through artist workshops, collaboration, and civic engagement. In 2022 I was invited to the Visions three day retreat at Friendly Pines Camp in Prescott, AZ. I spent the weekend assisting artists with materials, setup and takedown duties, demonstrations, and cabin logistics. This retreat was made possible by coordinating with teachers, students, Campway Staff, and Scottsdale Arts Community Engagement Manager Brittany Arnold.
Of course I am an artist myself! Why dont you look around -
Illustration
Here are just a few of my recent illustrations. Though I typically do character art, I also create marketing materials and graphics for Faith and Quinn Fabrics.
Programs and equipment used: Paint Tool Sai, Adobe Photoshop, and good ol pen and paper.

Much of my experimentation in ceramic glazes stems from my love for figurative art. One challenge is using certain underglaze pigments at high range fires, or trying to create controlled illustrations with unpredictable glazes. Recently, I've experimented with Majolica glazing techniques to render my figures.
This Angel Platter was made using underglaze pigments painted on greenware, then fired to bisque, and cone 6 fired with a clear glaze.
